We Want Peanuts to be the Star
To maintain a consistent and smooth texture over time, traditional peanut butter often includes oils like palm oil to reduce oil separation. The benefits of this approach are clear:
✔️ Stable texture
✔️ No frequent stirring required
✔️ Convenient for storage and use
But De Pindakaaswinkel chooses a different path.
We let the peanuts themselves become the star of the recipe, combined with a small amount of coconut oil, to create the smooth texture we love.
So, if you notice a beautiful layer of peanut oil appearing on top of the jar after it's been sitting for a while...
Don't panic! 😂
That doesn't mean the peanut butter has gone bad.
It's just the natural oils from the peanuts slowly separating. Give it a stir, and it's ready to enjoy.
We Choose Not to Use Palm Oil
Not because:
❌ "Palm oil is poison"
❌ "Palm oil is definitely unhealthy"
Palm oil itself is a widely used vegetable oil, and it has excellent stability in the food industry.
But we choose not to use it because it aligns with De Pindakaaswinkel's brand philosophy regarding product formulation and ingredient selection.
We do not want to support the deforestation and chemical use associated with palm oil production.
🥜 Is Coconut Oil the Best Then?
The founder says: Kokosolie is niet perfect = Coconut oil is not perfect either
🥥 Then why do we choose coconut oil?
We choose coconut oil not because we want to market it as some "magical health oil."
Rather, it's because coconut oil has several characteristics we appreciate in peanut butter:
① Texture and Mouthfeel
A small amount of coconut oil can make the peanut butter's texture smoother and also bring a delicate flavor distinct from plain peanuts.
② Flavor Compatibility
Coconut itself has a subtle aroma that pairs naturally with the nutty scent of roasted peanuts, allowing us to develop more diverse peanut butter flavors.
③ Unique Fat Composition
Coconut oil contains a higher proportion of medium-chain fatty acids, which also differentiates it from many common vegetable oils.
For us, choosing coconut oil isn't because it's perfect, but because it strikes a good balance between flavor, texture, and our philosophy on ingredient selection. 🥥🥜
